
Mijente Teams Up with Young Latino Network and Avanzamos Unidos for “El Chisme 2024” Nationwide Tour
On Saturday, August 24, Cleveland, Ohio, played host to Mijente’s “El Chisme 2024 Tour” with a vibrant event titled “Cleveland Sabroso y Poderoso.” In collaboration with the Young Latino Network (YLN), Avanzamos Unidos (AU), and Somos Cuyahoga 2024, the gathering brought together over 100 Latine community members, civic leaders, and artists for a dynamic mix of cultural performances, grassroots organizing, and essential political discussions.
Hosted at the iconic Mayans VIP Lounge, the event attracted over 100 attendees who enjoyed performances by DJ Flaco Flash, Bella Sin, Ariyah Fuego, and the acclaimed Puerto Rican comedian Aida Rodriguez. The evening was emceed by YLN and AU board member José Colón alongside Mijente’s Fernanda Castellanos, who emphasized the power of resistance through joy and the importance of collective action.
Speakers included Erika Anthony and Jerry Peña from Cleveland Votes, Klarissa Zeno, Chance Zuro, and Judge Jazmin Torres-Lugo, who urged attendees to register and vote in the upcoming November 5th election.
The event also marked the launch of YLN’s new electoral initiative, “Somos Cuyahoga 2024.” This nonpartisan Latine voter mobilization campaign aims to empower the voices of the Cuyahoga County Latine community. As a 501(c)(3) initiative, the campaign is dedicated to engaging, educating, and mobilizing 160,000 Latine constituents, ensuring their voices are heard at the ballot box. As part of a 20-city tour across the U.S. and Puerto Rico, Mijente is partnering with local organizations and changemakers to mobilize Latine voters in key swing states. Kicking off in Milwaukee, the tour has already made stops in Chicago, Detroit, and now Cleveland. The tour leverages music, art, and culture to spark meaningful discussions about the challenges facing our communities, the hope we find in local organizing, and the future we want to build for our families—regardless of who is in the White House.
