YLN’s Executive Director, Selina Pagán Invites You to Celebrate Semana de Siesta!
As we approach Latine Heritage Month, Young Latino Network (YLN) invites you to join a unique celebration designed to reclaim our time, rest, and cultural pride: Semana de Siesta. This week-long event, returning from September 23rd to 29th, promises to be a powerful opportunity for the Latine community to focus inward, reconnect with our roots, and rejuvenate ourselves.
What is Semana de Siesta?
Semana de Siesta, first launched in 2023, was created in response to the exhaustion many Latine individuals feel from continually educating others about our diverse and rich histories. While sharing our culture is important, we also need space to prioritize our own well-being and personal growth. This event allows us to step back from external demands and focus on self-exploration and healing.
By dedicating this time to reflect on our personal and shared histories, we can nurture our individual and collective identities. YLN’s Executive Director emphasizes that Semana de Siesta is an opportunity to reclaim our time, energy, and sense of self—empowering us to grow and thrive.
Why Join Semana de Siesta?
This special week is designed around three core themes:
Self-Exploration: Take this time to deepen your connection with your heritage and identity without the pressures of educating others.
Healing and Rest: Focus on mental and emotional well-being through activities that offer rest, renewal, and healing.
Community Connection: Build bonds with others in the Latine community, sharing stories, experiences, and support in a nurturing space.
What to Expect
From September 23rd to 29th, Semana de Siesta will feature a variety of thoughtfully curated events that highlight both cultural appreciation and personal wellness, including:
Cultural Workshops: Learn about Latine traditions through art, music, and food. Engage with hands-on activities that celebrate our collective history.
Wellness and Mindfulness: Attend sessions focused on mental health, mindfulness, and resilience, designed to support personal well-being and rest.
Community Events: Join conversations, storytelling sessions, and gatherings that encourage connection, solidarity, and understanding within the Latine community.
A Call to Reclaim Our Time
YLN’s Executive Director invites all Latine individuals to join Semana de Siesta as part of our broader efforts to reclaim Latine Heritage Month for ourselves. This week is not just about resting, but about celebrating our heritage on our terms—honoring our stories, our identities, and the strength we derive from our community.
Mark your calendars from September 23rd to 29th and join us for a liberating and transformative week. Let’s embrace this moment to rest, heal, and reconnect with our roots.
